Tournament Overview:

The Sabah Closed 2026 is a competitive tennis tournament designed to bring together players from across Sabah to compete for championship honors while promoting sportsmanship, fitness, teamwork, and fair play.

Key Information:

i. Number of Participants: Maximum of 32 entries/pairs per category

Note: The Tournament is subject to the registration of a minimum of 16 entries per category

ii. Number of Courts: 12

iii. Competition Format: Knockout

iv. Match Format: Best-of-Three Sets (2 sets plus Match Tiebreak) or Pro Set to 8 Games, subject to number of entries per category

v. Official Ball: DUNLOP Tennis Ball

Veteran (45 years and above)

vii. Entry Fees: 

Singles: RM80 per player

Doubles: RM120 per pair

viii. Registration Deadline: 12 September 2026, 11:59 PM

Tournament Schedule:

i. Player Registration: 7:00 AM

ii. Opening Ceremony: 7:30 AM

Eligibility Criteria:

i. Participation is restricted to individuals residing in Sabah who meet at least one of the following criteria:

Hold a Sabah Identity Card (MyKad); OR

Are able to provide proof of residence in Sabah; OR

Have resided in Sabah continuously for a minimum period of four (4) months immediately prior to the commencement of the tournament.

ii. All participants must complete registration through the official Google Form and upload proof of payment during registration.

iii. Each participant may compete in a maximum of two (2) categories.

Open Division

i. Men's Singles Open

ii. Men's Doubles Open

iii. Women's Singles Open

iv. Women's Doubles Open

Veteran Division (45 Years and Above)

i. Men's Singles Veteran

ii. Men's Doubles Veteran

iii. Women's Doubles Veteran

Note: Each category will only be contested upon receiving a minimum of sixteen (16) valid entries

Competition Format:

i. Single-elimination (knockout) format.

ii. Matches will be played in one of the following formats:

Best of Two Sets plus a Match Tiebreak (2+1); or

Pro Set to 8 Games.

Note: The match format and scoring system will be determined by the Organizing Committee based on the number of entries received in each category.

iii. No-Ad Scoring System: 

The No-Ad Scoring System shall apply to all matches. 

When the score reaches deuce (40-40), a single deciding point shall be played, with the winner of that point winning the game. 

In singles matches, the receiving player shall have the right to choose whether to receive the serve from the deuce court (right side) or the advantage court (left side) for the deciding point. 

In doubles matches, the receiving team shall decide which player will receive the deciding point; however, players may not change their receiving positions from the established order of service and receiving.

Tournament Rules:

i. All matches shall be conducted in accordance with the current ITF Rules of Tennis.

ii. Dunlop Tennis balls will be used as the official tournament ball. The use of any other ball brand is not permitted.

iii. Players must wear appropriate tennis attire and non-marking court shoes at all times during competition.

Match Scheduling & Punctuality:

i. Players are advised to report to the tournament desk at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled match time.

ii. A walkover will be awarded if a player or pair is not present and ready to play within 15 minutes of the scheduled match time.

iii. The official match schedule will be published prior to the start of the tournament and circulated via the official Tournament’s WebApp.

Officiating, Disputes & Protests:

i. Roaming Umpires will supervise tournament matches.

ii. Players are responsible for maintaining scores during matches.

iii. Any on-court dispute should be referred immediately to the designated Roaming Umpire.

iv. All decisions made by the Umpire are final.

v. Players or team managers may submit a formal protest regarding unresolved matters to the Tournament Director within 30 minutes of the completion of the match, accompanied by a protest deposit of RM200.

vi. The protest deposit will be forfeited if the protest is determined to be without merit.

Cramping Policy:

i. Medical timeouts will not be granted for cramping.

ii. Players are expected to continue play and complete points whenever possible.

iii. Treatment for cramping may only take place during changeovers and may include sprays, medication, stretching, or other approved measures.

Medical Timeout Policy:

i. Medical timeouts may be granted in the event of:

Acute injury

Bleeding incidents

ii. The following conditions apply:

Maximum treatment time of three (3) minutes.

Play will be suspended during treatment.

One medical timeout is permitted per distinct injury.

Additional timeouts for the same injury will not be granted.

Example:

Fall resulting in a knee injury = One medical timeout.

Separate later incident causing an elbow injury with bleeding = One additional medical timeout.

iii. The Tournament Committee may exercise reasonable discretion in exceptional circumstances, subject to the agreement of the opposing player(s).

Prize Money:

Singles Category

Champion: RM800 + Medal

Runner-up: RM500 + Medal

Semi-finalists: RM300 + Medal

Doubles category

Champion: RM1,000 + Medals

Runner-up: RM700 + Medals

Semi-finalists: RM500 + Medals

General Conditions:

i. The Organizing Committee shall not be held responsible for any injury, illness, loss of personal property, permanent disability, or death arising from participation in the tournament.

ii. Matches may continue into the evening. Participants are responsible for maintaining their own fitness, hydration, and meals throughout the event.

iii. A minimum of sixteen (16) entries is required for each category. Categories that fail to meet the minimum requirement may be cancelled.

iv. Where applicable, affected participants may be offered the opportunity to transfer to another category. If declined, entry fees will be refunded within 30 days following the conclusion of the tournament.

v. No paramedic services or medical kits will be provided by the organizers. Participants are responsible for bringing their own medical supplies if required.
